We arrived back from the city late last night, tired but very happy!
ANGEL HAS A VISA!!!! He is leaving to go to the U.S. next week. He is excited and nervous. He told me that he doesn’t know what it is going to be like when he arrives there.
Aida who works with COTA ( Children of the Americas ) is a wonderful woman. Without her I think it would have been very difficult for Angel to get a visa. She has been arranging medical treatments for children for 25yrs, she told me that she has organized approx. 5,000 children to be able to go to the U.S. for the treatments that they needed in that time.
Only two of the three children who needed eye treatments turned up but it was very important that the ones who came received the treatment that they did.
We had a four year old boy and a 9yr old boy with us.
The doctor confirmed that the 4yr old is losing the sight in one eye and it may be irreversible , but that it is urgent that he receives medical treatment immed. to be able to save his other eye. We have set up an appt. and will be making sure that we do everything possible for him.
His mother also has very bad eyes, she has glaucoma and we are getting the treatment for her.
The mother of the 9yr old boy, also had very bad eyes and we have arranged to get her glasses.
The other little boy, 9yrs old , needed medicine for his eyes. They have been red and sore for a year now. But with the medications that he received he should soon have good results.
On the way to the city, we stopped to quickly check on the 9yr old boy that has cancer in his leg. The family had got him to the city – they left at 3.am. – got to the city for a 6.am. appt. , sat around for hours, the doctor checked the boys ears and nose and then sent them home without medication. The child is having a lot of pain in his chest and stomach. We are bringing him to the clinic on Monday to see what medical treatment he really needs.
We accomplished most of what we needed in the city, it is impossible to get all you need done in just one day. Beckster – we have ceramics!
I am just so thrilled for Angel! After all that he has been through – going to the U.S. for his medical treatment is just a huge blessing! I am so impressed with COTA, Jody is such a dedicated person and she really works so hard to get the care for these children that they need.
That this would not be happening without this fabulous group.
Carol from this group, heard about Angel and researched about what could be done to help him.
She found COTA – Children of the America’s. It was Carol who contacted them and told them about Angel. It was Carol that put me in touch with Jody. Carol has been communicating with Jody all this time.
I am so thankful that Carol took the time to investigate. The result of this is that Angel will be on a plane next week and by next year he will have a whole new life – he will be able to go back to school, he will be able to smile and laugh, he will be out of pain for the first time in 3 years.
He may never meet Carol but she is responsible for profoundly changing his life.
I am so proud of this group and all that you accomplish. I have said before that Mayan Families is really a group effort by all of us and it is very true.
You make so many positive changes in the lives of families that you may never meet, you give hope to so many people.
My heart is so full of gratitude for all that you do,
Sharon
