Update on 9 Year Old Cancer Victim

Yesterday morning, Julio and Oto left at 6.am. to pick up the young boy with cancer and bring him to the clinic for treatment. He did not have any medication for pain and he was in a lot of pain. We were hoping to be able to get pain medication for him and see what else could be done because he is not receiving the help he needs from the hospital.

Unfortunately, the family had sent him the day before to the home of a naturalist on the coast where they will be treating him herbally and praying over him. He will be staying there for a month. I am not against herbal treatments and I think that prayer has a lot of power but this young boy needs medical help. I am very sad for him that he has been sent away to a place where he doesn’t know anyone and is in a lot of pain. I also understand that the family are doing what they think is best for him. The mother said that if she sees he is not getting better then she will call us. It is hard for her, she is uneducated, she can’t read or write,she is very poor, she is relying on her elder sons to support her, her husband died last year and she is overwhelmed with the care of her son and trying to do the best for him. She has not received adequate care for her son from the medical hospital or the doctors and she saw this as an alternative to help her son.
